CHN is pleased to offer Anticoagulation services at our Berlin Hospital campus. These services support patients who take anticoagulation medications, most often Coumadin® (warfarin), to help prevent excess blood clotting and require medication monitoring and adjustments as part of their blood therapy.

How is this different from the way I normally have my Warfarin monitored?
Instead of getting your blood drawn at the lab and waiting for your doctor’s office to call you with the result, you will come to the Anticoagulation Clinic. At the Clinic, a simple finger stick will give us your INR result. A new dose will be determined immediately and a follow-up visit will be scheduled, as needed.

What are the benefits of going to an Anticoagulation Clinic?
Our patients appreciate the simple finger stick method of collecting blood. Following the collection, an anticoagulation specialist will not only adjust your dose but also answer any questions you have and provide further education regarding your treatment. In addition to the added convenience, studies have shown that patients who are seen at a managed anticoagulation clinic have less complications from their Warfarin therapy.

How do I switch to the Anticoagulation Clinic?
Let your doctor know of your interest in the clinic. Then, he/she will fill out the necessary forms and schedule you an appointment to visit us. The initial visit will last 30-40 minutes; follow-up appointments will take 15-20 minutes. There may be a small co-payment depending on your insurance coverage.
