Berlin native Kristen (Janes) Mertens, a Certified Speech Language Pathologist, has joined the staff of Community Health Network’s (CHN) Proformance Rehabilitation division.

In her role at CHN, Mertens provides inpatient and outpatient speech therapy consultations to patients of Berlin Memorial Hospital, Juliette Manor, Wild Rose Manor, Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital, Proformance at the Wautoma Medical Complex and CHN Home Care. She has special training to evaluate, diagnose and treat people of all ages with speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing disorders.

“Kristen brings a depth of knowledge and experience that benefit patients of all age groups,” said Jean Kalupa, RN, Director of Proformance. “Her commitment to patient care and diligent work ethic make her a solid addition to our CHN team.”

A graduate of Berlin High School, Mertens earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech pathology/communicative disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed several internships at various Madison area clinics, hospitals, schools, as well as in private practice, and worked at a skilled nursing facility providing speech-language pathology services prior to joining CHN. She is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed by the State of Wisconsin.

Mertens and her husband, Matt, reside in the Berlin area.
